Jazz Licks (overthought)

September 28th, 2010

teachers always start off their lesson with “what is x”. for this it would be “what is a
lick” well im jaded on “what is x”. so i’ll just say a lick is between 2 and about 16 notes
that you can play in all 12 keys.
oh, by the way Ernie Watts is awesome.
so anywas a lick is somthing that you just have down in your reflex, that you can pull out at
basically any tempo because its a part of you so much that its not really a matter of tempo
any more, it just happens when you call upon it.
so, lets speed it up faster and faster to say… 600 bpm… thats 4 times faster than a
medium tempoed jazz tune. ok now your playing eigth notes like 32nd notes at 150 bmp right?
well that means that for each eigth note your playing four notes… that means that you can’t
even really hear the indiviual notes.
so that means that there are two ways to see playing at fast tempos. one is defining a scale
or a sound by playing all of the notes in it up down in out around
another one is to think of each lick as a note itself. so just like improvising within a
scale, now were improvising within the licks we know.
for example, playing within a scale we could say this on the spot:
Am
a b c d e d e f# g g# a
or if were playing with licks we know we could improvise this:
Am
lick1 lick2 lick7 lick1 lick1
theres no way to know what we’re going to want to say at that moment. but we know phrases
and words in english that we can string together to make sense when the time comes. so when
we see a new song and we are thinking we want to sound sparkley over it, we’re going to take
some notes and licks and play!
Am
a b c d lick1 lick5 f f# g f# g# lick1
now… lets take not only tempo and speed it up.. lets take time itself
lets say you learn one lick a month in 12 keys. ok so now every time you learn a new lick,
your understanding of the notes, the sound and the intervals and the fingerings gets deeper
and more comfortable. now we’re getting better at learning licks. now we can learn 2 licks
a month… now we can learn 4 a month!
now
we
can
learn…
10…100…1000 a month! ok so now we’re basically just learning licks as soon as we play
them… as soon as we think of them really! now our understanding of notes, sound, intervals,
timing, fingering, rhythm is so natural that we have transcended licks all together! now w

just hear what we play without having to work it out for a week before we can use it. now
anything we hear is just smoothly coming out of us.
keep that in mind when you’re practising. love that grinding your brain and body does to
learn somthing new because that feeling means your on the path to godly thought sound. which
means that whatever your thinking is being turned into reality… your now a geanie! wow!

Inspiron E1505 Audio Crackle SOLVED

August 27th, 2010

I was getting audio crackle when watching video on the internet.  I tried a bunch of stuff including disabling the “a” band on my wireless card.  I finally messed around enough to find a solution for this particular computer.:

*Downloaded the Omega ATI video drivers (instead of the standard ATI video drivers)

*Went into the settings and took the “acceleration” back a notch from “full”.  Try it!  It worked for me.

Super Slow Wake Alarm Clock

January 14th, 2010

Do you hate your alarm clock?

Do you want to smash it with a bat?

Do you wake up groggy or tired?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you deserve the “Super Slow Wake Alarm Clock” for MP3 players by SongsMadeForYou.

The Super Slow Wake Alarm Clock was scientifically designed to gently awaken you from sleep. The following graph takes you through the different phases of the alarm clock.

1. A very quiet soothing sound builds. This lets your body know that it has the following twelve minutes to gently arise.

2. Soft, Eastern chimes sound. This gives your body a calm but motivated rhythm to hold through the waking process and throughout the day.

3. A low bass note plays. This gently vibrates your body, sonically massaging you and at the same time stimulating your nerves awakening them.

4. The catchy groove begins. By now you should be almost conscious and ready to get up and tackle all the great adventures you will have today.

5. A saxophone solo slides into a final bell arrangement. This is your final wake up call. You will eventually get into the pattern of getting up 60-90 seconds before the ending and can now turn off your clock and brush your teeth.

The Super Slow Wake Alarm Clock by SongsMadeForYou is compatible with all iPods and many 3rd party MP3 players. Just set the Super Slow Wake Alarm Clock MP3 to your alarm clock playlist and set the time to 10 minutes before you’d like to get up.

Neo Tribal Music

October 29th, 2009

Are you addicted to fusion music?  Do you like the sound of Jazz and Rock?  Do you appreciate the subtleties of Gamalon mixed with 90′s Pop?  Well look no further because fusion has hit the black and white photo scene.  We dropped a trumpet and a steel string guitar from a helicopter (or chopper if you so please) on an indigenous tribe in mamaua-realtively-new-guinnea.  The tribal musicians quickly learned jazz trumpet licks and teenage folksy add9 chords on the guitar.  A new music was born.  Now even the most humble tribes play with pretension and sudo-angst.

The point of this all is that BLAM I just dropped a link on you mid sentence.  I’m selling songs on eBay so here: catch a custom song!
